Purchased 9 gift cards in California on Dec.23, 2012, one of them a $50.00 Bed Bath and Beyond. All were activated.

I flew to Florida on the 24th and purchased several more cards, another $50.00 Bed Bad and Beyond. All gift certificates were good when redeemed at each store except for the Bed Bath and Beyond certificates which my 80 year old mother tried to redeem in March 2013! She had $100. worth of certificates, and they were completely worthless!

The clerk asked her if she's like to purchase them! Thank goodness I had kept the activation receipt for the one bought in California, but unable to find the one purchased in Florida. Tell me how this can be? She is a dedicated and loyal customer and was treated like a thief!

Was there an internet problem that day?

I will never buy another certificate from or step foot in a Bed Bath and Beyond store again. I am really quite shocked by this!I was also a loyal customer...was!

Monetary Loss: $50.

Location: Saint Petersburg, Florida

The employee did the right thing. They can't just come out and say hey thief.

Sometimes mistakes are made and if the card is not activated then they just ask if you would like to place something on it. Stop looking for reasons to be offended. Have you ever seen a woman walk into a store and her purse sets the alarm off? The employee offers to demagnetize the tag in there and swipes the purse across whatever strip they use?

That is the last place that you want your credit cards/gift cards to be. Not to be paranoid but I keep all gift card receipts and check them all online/by phone before using/gifting them.

It's a bit much but it's a great practice. Yeah, you shouldn't have to...and all that jazz but it would have been to your benefit.

You ever thing going through all the magnets through airport security might have something to do with it. No one tried to scam you out of money, ***.

I'm pretty sure they did. And it's not necessarily that it's demagnetized; no need to be aggressive and personally attack the OP to get your point across.

OP, check your receipts if you can--and then call customer service. Hopefully there's a nicer employee.
